10th Edition of the Xmas Trail in Guifões raised 2,340€ for an institution

The 10th edition of the Xmas Trail, which took place today, December 18 in Guifões raised 2,340 euros for the Instituição Ajuda Fraterna de São Martinho de Guifões and had about 500 participants

This year the Xmas Trail, a race with a strong social, environmental and solidarity component, which included a 10 km walk and trail starting at 10:00 am that went through the areas of Guifões, the Leça River, the Lomba and the Bridge of the Car, each participant could choose the value of your registration (3, 6 or 9 euros), and the value of the entries were delivered in full to the Fraternal Aid of S. Martinho de Guifões.

Unlike previous editions, in which the value to be donated was defined by the athletes

the athletes' performance, in this 10th edition, the aid corresponded to the total value of the registrations.

The Fraternal Aid of São Martinho de Guifões develops a role of extreme

important role in this community.

The objective of the institution is to support vulnerable families, in food support, technical help, medication, among others. This institution is part of the Partnership Network of Institutions to Fight Economic Precariousness project.

The Xmas Trail, besides being a sports event is a social gathering of trail runners, friends and elite athletes and a Trail Party where the Christmas theme is always present.

The route is designed in new trails on the banks of the Leça River, in a natural area with historical traces of a life once more connected to the river.

It is thus more than a trail race, it is the opportunity for people to return to the Leça River and together to cover trails in a meeting between sport and nature, between past and present, thus culminating in a pleasant feeling of overcoming the limits of each one.

Present at the initiative were the president of the Parish Councils of Custóias, Leça do Balio and Guifões, Pedro Gonçalves, the Town Councillor for Sports of the Matosinhos Town Hall, Vasco Pinho, and the parish priest Américo Rebelo.

The Xmas Trail started in Guifões in 2015.

The Xmas Trail is organized by Funevents, promoted by the Municipality of Matosinhos with the partnership of União das Freguesias de Custóias, Leça do Balio e Guifões and supported by MatosinhoSport.
