Batalha invites to celebrate Valentine's Day and Carnival

The Batalha Film Center has prepared a special program for Valentine's Day and Carnaval



The performance hall also reveals that those who buy a ticket for the Valentine's night session receive a second ticket free. A promotion valid only at the Batalha Box Office.

On February 14, at 9:15 pm, the comedy "Heathers" (1988) will be shown. Starring Winona Ryder, who plays Veronica Sawyer, a "student at a school in an American suburb who joins a trio of popular girls who control the dynamics of high school. Once Veronica realizes how the group mistreats her classmates, she decides to walk away and take justice "into her own hands," with the help of Jason Dean, the new student, played by Christian Slater. Despite not having been a success in its debut, this feature film has acquired, "over the years, the status of cult film," reads the programming of the Battle.

In the same session, follows the short film "Janine" (1990), by Cheryl Dunye, which "tells the story of the friendship between a young girl, black and lesbian, and her schoolmate, Caucasian and from the upper class. Between the author's personal experiences and fiction, the documentary shows the "challenges and frustrations of the process of growing up, searching for identity, and affirmation in a predominantly white America.

Already on February 18, Saturday, at 3:15 pm, Carnival is celebrated with a screening for the whole family. "The Boy and the World", by Alê Abreu, tells the story of Cuca, a child who, after months waiting for his father to return from a "small village in the interior of Brazil" to the city center in search of "support for the family", sets off to find him. The film, nominated for the "Oscar for Best Animation", was "developed using traditional animation techniques (colored and wax pencil, collage and watercolor)" and is considered "a hymn to the musical joy of Brazilian Carnaval".
