76 years of service to sports in the county
Associação Académica de São Mamede (AASM) celebrated yesterday its 76th anniversary with a meeting attended by athletes from various sports, as well as technical teams, governing bodies of the association and families.
The anniversary ceremony was attended by the mayor of Matosinhos, Luisa Salgueiro, who was awarded the honorary membership, as well as the councilman of the municipality's sports, Vasco Pinho, and the president of the Union of Parishes of S. Mamede and Senhora da Hora, Leonardo Fernandes.
Recall that the institution was created on December 1, 1946 by a group of friends, students and sports lovers, who met one day on a farm located in Largo da Ermida, above the garage of the property belonging to the parents of the first youngsters of the club - brothers Fernão and Vasco Sá, recently returned from Brazil. Since then, much has happened, and much work has been developed by this institution on behalf of sports, especially handball, triathlon, and volleyball, but also gymnastics, karate, and tennis, sports that also leave their mark on the history of this association.
