Institution completes 91 years of existence serving the people
The Associação Humanitária Bombeiros Voluntários de Leça do Balio celebrated its 91st anniversary on Saturday, September 24th.
After two years of constraints due to the pandemic, the institution resumed the celebrations in person, betting on the concept of "Barracks to meet the community.
Thus, from September 18 to 25, the corporation's headquarters is installed in Largo do Souto, in Custóias, showing the vehicles, the material used by firefighters in the various services it provides, and the work done daily on behalf of the population.
Today's ceremony started with the graduation and hoisting of the flags, followed by the solemn session and the awarding of medals and diplomas to members with 50 years of membership.
The session was attended by the Mayor of Matosinhos, Luísa Salgueiro, the councilor for Civil Protection, Marta Pontes, the chairman of the board of Custóias, Leça do Balio and Guifões, Pedro Gonçalves, the president of the Humanitarian Association Bombeiros Voluntários de Leça do Balio, Joaquim Paulo, and the commander of the corporation, Carlos Abalada.
The celebrations of the 91st anniversary of that institution began on September 17, with the inauguration of the 100Limits Library, a project open to the community that is supported by the "Healthy Neighborhoods" program, whose goal is to support local interventions to promote health and quality of life in territorial communities, through projects presented by "associations, communities, non-governmental organizations, civic movements, and neighborhood organizations.
