Jorge Polónia, FMUP researcher, distinguished by Bial Foundation

Ceremony took place at FMUP's Aula Magna


A project developed by researchers from the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto (FMUP), including Jorge Polónia, was awarded an honorable mention in the Bial Award for Clinical Medicine 2022. The award was delivered last February 8, in the Aula Magna of the FMUP, in a ceremony chaired by the President of the Republic.

Resulting from a collaboration between several academic institutions and international working groups, the awarded work presents the results of a broad research in the field of hypertension in the Mozambican population, carried out over the last 25 years.

Specialist in Internal Medicine, Clinical Pharmacology and European Specialist in Clinical Hypertension (ESH), Jorge Polónia has a vast and prestigious professional experience, currently accumulating the following functions Associate Professor of Internal Medicine at FMUP and Visiting Full Professor of Medicine at the University of Aveiro; Coordinator of the Northern Pharmacovigilance Unit of Infarmed; Senior Consultant of Hypertension/Internal Medicine at the Hypertension & Cardiovascular Risk Unit of Hospital Pedro Hispano; Member of the Council of the European Society of Hypertension; and, also, Researcher at CINTESIS (Center for Research in Health Technologies and Services), FMUP.

Author of several projects worthy of distinctions, Jorge Polónia has dozens of scientific awards, mostly attributed to works in the area of hypertension, and more than a hundred scientific articles published in international journals. This is already the 3rd time that Jorge Polónia is awarded by the Bial Foundation, with honorable mentions granted in 2008 and 2022, having received his 1st prize in 2014.
