Yesterday, March 8th, International Women's Day, the Junta de Freguesia (Town Council) marked the date with a series of initiatives, held in Matosinhos and Leça da Palmeira
During the morning, Paulo Ramos de Carvalho , President of the Board and Paulo Ferreira, Fernando Monteiro and Eduardo Ferreira, members of the executive, visited the Matosinhos Market. This is a tradition, held annually by the Junta de Freguesia, to greet the women who work in this emblematic place of our city and deliver flowers, as a symbol of recognition of the value and role of women in our society. In Leça da Palmeira, there was a physical warm up with the Marching and Running Center of the Junta de Freguesia and a dance class with the Attitude School. Despite the weather conditions have not allowed the realization of the Walk, previously scheduled, the good mood was not missing and the participants took part in this class with great enthusiasm. The executive of this municipality was also present at the event and thanked everyone for their participation. During the afternoon, in the "Knowing is easy" Training/Competencies Center in Matosinhos, a tertulia promoted by the Junta de Freguesia and this entity took place. Paulo Carvalho, President of the Junta de Freguesia, Manuela Machado and José Pinto from the Matosinhos Delegation of the Portuguese Red Cross, Lyudmyla Artysh from the Association of Ukrainians living in the Metropolitan Area of Porto and Fernanda Cibage, moderator, were present on the guest panel. The session, entitled "Women vs Violence" had as main themes domestic violence and also, the impact of war in Ukraine in women of this country. In the opening speech, the President of the Junta, Paulo Carvalho, mentioned the collective work that must be done to continue to build a more equal and fair society. The mayor stressed the importance of women's rights and the creation of conditions for them to be increasingly present in different areas of society and also to be increasingly valued professionally. In addition, the President of the Board, expressed his solidarity with the Ukrainian people, especially women and families currently residing in Matosinhos and Leça da Palmeira. Highlight also to the presence of Manuela Galante and Eduardo Ferreira, members of the executive and Vera Sampaio, from the training center "Saber é Fácil".
