On the table is the elaboration of a tourism development plan
The municipalities of Matosinhos and Villagarcía de Arousa want to update the twinning agreement signed in 1959 and relaunch it with new aspects.
On the table is the development of a tourism development plan based on the project “The sea that unites us”, recently approved by the European Commission, and which has the support of the European Grouping for Territorial Cooperation (EGTC) of the Galicia Euroregion - Northern Portugal, within the scope of the call for the CERV program (Citizens, Equality, Rights and Values).
A delegation from the Spanish municipality, led by mayor Alberto Varela, who is also president of the Galician Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FEGAMP), was received today in Matosinhos by the Mayor.
In addition to Luísa Salgueiro, the councilors for Culture of the municipality of Matosinhos, Fernando Rocha, for Economic Development, Commerce and Tourism, Marta Pontes, and for Sports, Vasco Pinho, the deputy director of the EGTC of the Euroregion Galicia – Norte were present at the working meeting. of Portugal, Xosé Lago, the manager of the EGTC Galicia, Alfonso Rubio, in addition to technicians and heads of the two municipalities.
The project “O Mar que nos Une” is intended to finance the rapprochement of both municipalities through a joint program of activities to be carried out during this year, in Matosinhos, with the participation of various institutions, associations and citizens from both municipalities. .
Focused on the sea as a source of natural and economic resources for the two twinned cities, the project foresees the development of a set of activities, from September onwards, in the areas of the economy of the sea, tourism and its relationship with the Way of Santiago, gastronomy, culture and business collaboration.
