Matosinhos at the Climate Summit

Municipality publicises work to prevent and reduce the impact of climate change

The Municipality of Matosinhos, as Resilience Hub, participated in the 27th United Nations Climate Summit (COP27), which took place over the past two weeks in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt.

The Municipality of Matosinhos was represented by the Councillor for Civil Protection, Marta Pontes.

It is recalled that the work that Matosinhos has been developing in the area of risks, prevention and reduction of the impact of climate change was highlighted

by the United Nations Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) office in particular with regard to its Making Cities Resilient MCR2030 strategy.

The participation of Matosinhos in this world event, integrated with ICLEI - Local Governments for Sustainability, intended not only to make known the work developed and which allowed it to be the first Portuguese Resilience Hub, but also to leverage new projects and partnerships within the scope of reducing risks and catastrophes, their impact and the construction of an integrating urban resilience of all partners, public and private, and of the entire community.

The presence at the summit also allowed a great approach to some Portuguese-speaking countries, which represents one of the specific goals of the hub.

Last October, the Matosinhos Resilience Hub was also a prominent example in the blue zone of the International Disaster Resilience Leaders Forum, which took place in Incheon, South Korea.
