Matosinhos City Hall performs tree pruning

Intervention in more than three thousand trees last year

Last year, the municipality of Matosinhos pruned 3021 trees throughout the municipality. This practice consists in the selective cutting of branches, roots or shoots necessary for the desired development of each tree.

The urban forestation is increasingly recognized and assumed as an essential asset to the quality of life and health of cities, with environmental benefits. Trees absorb carbon dioxide, capture dust and noise, contribute to the mitigation of temperature and wind, and enhance the landscape where they are located. As such, tree pruning is applied only when necessary, preserving its environmental function.

Risk of breakage and falling trees and conflict with other structures such as buildings or lighting are some of the situations that justify the intervention on the ground by the Parks and Gardens Unit of the municipality.
