The Management Committee of Mercadona, a supermarket company, has decided, in line with the company's Total Quality Model, to increase the base salary of all its staff according to the definitive CPI for December 2022
This measure will take effect as from the January salary of the more than 96,000 employees who are part of the company in Portugal and Spain, in accordance with the definitive CPI for the month of December applied in each country. The aim is to maintain the purchasing power of all the people who are part of Mercadona, because they are the customers' best asset. The more satisfied the "Bosses", as the company internally refers to its customers, the more Mercadona moves forward.
The company increases its productivity by 9%.
Mercadona, knowing that increasing salaries in 2022 in line with inflation of 6.5% in Spain and 2.7% in Portugal would mean an increase in its fixed costs, has implemented a series of new measures. Among them, improvements in the digitalization of its processes and the commitment to make the entire team aware in the analysis of the costs incurred, moves that resulted, by the end of the year, in a 9% increase in productivity and cost savings of more than 200 million euros.
Entry-level wage increase in Portugal as of January
Mercadona announced last October that it will increase the entry salary of its employees in Portugal by 11%, to which will now be added the CPI update to the entire salary scale.
Salary Progression Policy
At Mercadona, salary progression is one way of rewarding employees for the effort and dedication they put in on a daily basis. It is one of the benefits we offer, together with other values such as effectiveness from day one or training. Thus, salary progression can vary between 4 and 5 levels, applying at each level a salary increase of 11%, for a maximum of 5 years, depending on the position the employee holds.
