Museums and Libraries of Porto present New Identity at Alfândega

The unveiling of the new identity of the Oporto Museum and Libraries will take place at 5:30 PM on Wednesday, March 1st, at an event at the Oporto Customs House, which will also serve to present the programming of the various spaces for the coming months

The new communication identity will aggregate the museums and libraries of the municipal sphere. The detailed programming of these spaces for March and April and the main options for 2023 will also be revealed at the ceremony, with the launch of an agenda.

The Porto Museum consists of a network of 10 spaces, which embraces the city and includes notable buildings of the city, gardens, parks, collections and archives.

"It will be to the Museum city that the Oporto Museum connects us, in a constellation of houses and experiences of memory and knowledge, of creation, communication and fruition, that are renewed, for all audiences", emphasizes Jorge Sobrado, director of the Oporto Museum and Libraries.

The name Oporto Museum recovers the identity of the first municipal museum in the country, created in the city, and that came from João Allen's private collection, exhibited since 1836. The Oporto Municipal Museum opened its doors to the public in 1852, presenting different artistic disciplines, from painting to archeology.

In this path made of identities and new ideas, the Oporto Museum reinforces the connection to the city and to the local, regional, national and international fabric, with a set of diversified programs, collections, reserves and activities.

Likewise, the Porto Libraries adopt a unique visual identity, which includes the Porto Public Municipal Library, the Almeida Garrett Municipal Library and the Pedro Ivo Popular Library.

In these spaces of access to books and knowledge, promotion of reading and stimulus to study and creativity, it is intended to develop a regular program for audiences of different interests and all ages.

The public presentation is scheduled for this Wednesday, March 1st, starting at 5:30pm, and will be made by Rui Moreira, Mayor of Porto City Hall, and Jorge Sobrado, director of the Porto Museum and Libraries.

Soon after, Susana Cabeleira will present a DJ Set with melodic and vigorous sonorities in the sphere of electronic music, and that welcome the twilight over the horizon of the Douro River.
