Matosinhos celebrates "Europe in my region"
Students, firemen, fishermen, scouts, parish priests, Municipal Police officers and local politicians from Matosinhos participated yesterday in a lunch celebrating the motto "O Sabor é o Nosso Norte" (Taste is our North).
Promoted by Conserveira Pinhais, the European Commission and the North Regional Coordination and Development Commission (CCDR-N), the lunch aimed to involve the Matosinhos community and highlight the North Region. Present were the Mayor, Luísa Salgueiro, the town councillor for Economic Development, Trade and Tourism, Marta Pontes, and the president of the Union of Parishes of S. Mamede de Infesta and Senhora da Hora, Leonardo Fernandes.
This initiative is part of the project "Europe in my region", which aims to inform citizens about the projects implemented in the regions they are part of and which were funded by the European Union. One such example is the Live Museum of the Pinhais Cannery, financed by Community funds, which combines the knowledge and the memory of the canning industry of Matosinhos, and aims to attract visitors to experience the industrial heritage, in a place where the artisanal production processes are maintained.
The lunch participants received a special edition of the label for Pinhais' canned food under the theme "Europe in my Region" designed by a student from Matosinhos, winner of the Drawing Competition "O Sabor é o Nosso Norte".
