Pedro Burmester in Real Vinícola

Saturday, 12th November, 19h00. Free admission

Pedro Burmester will be at Real Vinícola next Saturday, November 12, for another concert included in the piano cycle developed by the Matosinhos City Hall as part of the classical music season for 2022.

The piano cycle presents, until December, concerts with some of the best national pianists. After Vasco Dantas and António Oliveira, the next concert of this piano cycle will bring Pedro Burmester and Marco Pereira (cello) to the studio of Orquestra Jazz de Matosinhos at Real Vinícola.

The third concert of this piano cycle is a happy opportunity to hear pianist Pedro Burmester in a kind of double performance. In a chamber music concert, with cellist Marco Pereira, performing the Sonata for cello and piano in G Minor, op. 19, by Sergei Rachmaninoff (1873-1943), and in a solo piano concert, performing the Sonata in B Minor, S.178, by Franz Liszt (1811-1886).

The Sonata for cello and piano in G Minor, op. 19 is considered Sergei Rachmaninoff's most important and fascinating piece of chamber music. It was composed in 1901 and dedicated to the cellist Anatoly Brandukov who performed it publicly in Moscow that same year, accompanied by the composer himself on the piano. In this sonata for two instruments, the piano moves away from the simple role of accompaniment and takes on a soloistic dimension and a dialogue, on equal terms, with the cello. A sonata for cello and piano, where many of the themes are first presented on the piano and then developed and embellished by the cello.

The concerts are free of charge (admission is limited to the space's capacity) and will take place at OJM's studio, in Real Vinícola, at 7 p.m.

The piano cycle of the Classical Music of Matosinhos programme for 2022, is framed in the cultural policy of the municipality, continuing a strategy that has been followed for several years by the municipality, nationally recognised for its quality and diversity.
