Real Vinícola received the second concert of this edition
The second concert of the Piano Cycle 2022 Music in Matosinhos took place late in the afternoon of Saturday, the 15th of October, once again in the studio of the Orquestra Jazz de Matosinhos located in the Real Vinícola.
The recital had as its protagonist António Oliveira who presented three musical works which can be considered as almost unavoidable references in the writing for piano of the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries.
The Fantasia in C minor, K.475, by W. Amadeus Mozart (1756-1791), one of the most sublime and significant pieces of the composer's piano writing, was composed in 1785 in the city of Vienna and dedicated to Madame Therèse von Trattner, a pupil of the composer and wife of an important Austrian publisher.
The eighteenth-century work on the programme is Kreisleriana op.16, by the German composer Robert Schumann (1810-1856). It was written in 1838 and dedicated to the great piano master Frédéric Chopin (1810-1849). The Kreisleriana op.16 is made up of a set of eight pieces, with no designation other than an indication of character/charm (extremely lively, very intimate, etc.), very contrasting, expressive, energetic and quite demanding to perform.
Finally, the last work of the concert, the Sonata nº2, op.36, by the unavoidable composer Sergei Rachmaninoff (1873-1943) was originally composed in 1913 and later revised in 1931. The Sonata nº2, op.36 is a work formed by three contrasting movements (Allegro agitato, Non allegro and Allegro molto), although it gives us the impression that there is only one movement, because of the way it makes the transition between its movements.
The piano cycle will present, until December, concerts with some of the best national pianists. After Vasco Dantas and António Oliveira, Pedro Burmester and Marco Pereira (cello) will follow on November 12th, and on December 10th, Sara Vaz and the maestro Vitorino d'Almeida.
Remember that the concerts are free of charge (admission limited to the space's capacity) and will take place at Orquestra Jazz de Matosinhos' studio, in Real Vinícola, at 7 p.m..
