The training of farmers for the New Ribeiras Horta with 50 more plots has already started
The training of farmers for the new Ribeiras Garden project began on August 1, located on the Avenida das Ribeiras, in Perafita, with 50 more plots.
Also in Guifões, more specifically in the Esquinheiro Housing Complex, a new Garden will be born under this project. The call for tenders for the construction work is expected to advance between the end of September and the beginning of October.
The "Horta à Porta" is a project that aims to promote quality of life of the population, through good agricultural practices and the creation of dynamic green spaces, while promoting contact with nature, reducing waste production, especially organic matter, the development of healthy habits and good environmental practices in general.
The Matosinhos City Hall joined this project in 2005, having conceived its first vegetable garden in Custóias, with 34 plots made available for the production of organic agriculture by the population of Matosinhos. Since then, many other plots have been created, also following the growing interest of the population for these practices.
The project makes available cultivation plots with approximately 25 m2 to individuals interested in practicing organic agriculture and composting. Upon receiving the plot of land, the future farmers also receive training in organic farming. The products are for their own consumption, water is made available and there is a place to store tools, as well as compost bins.
Matosinhos, at the moment, has ten spaces of municipal management in this project, and about 320 families are inserted in them.
We currently have, with pre-registration in the project Horta à porta, about 955 registered citizens who are waiting for the allocation of a plot.
The pre-registration in the project "Horta à Porta - hortas biológicas da região do Porto", which has Lipor as a partner, can be done by filling out an application form at the Loja do Munícipe.
