Six tips to recover money spent on vacation

The vacation season is usually more conducive to spending, whether it's on rental housing, hotel bookings, dining out, or admission to water parks. Although sometimes it is difficult to accept the return to routine, it forces us to contain costs and make more conscious choices.

In this sense, NM has put together six useful tips to make it easier to save and reorganize finances, recovering some of the money spent on vacation in the coming months.

1. Write down your expenses and put aside some money

This is one of the most important tips we could give: to be aware of what you spend. It is essential to write down all your expenses to understand where and on what you have spent the most money. This can be done in notes on the cell phone, excel, notepad or applications, and this way it will be possible to have a better perception of the difference between what you earn and what you spend.

Another tip is to have the notion that every month you should save some money. This way, when you receive your salary you should put some amount directly into savings, even if it may seem insignificant at the time.

2. Leave the car and use public transportation

Even though sometimes it is more convenient to travel by car, the truth is that by choosing public transportation you are saving a lot of money at the end of the month. A car carries several expenses, whether they are insurance, gasoline, or diesel. With a pass for public transport you can save a lot, since all the expenses associated with the car are reflected in thousands of euros at the end of the year.

3. Set priorities

Setting a monthly goal is, without a doubt, a good start to try to save as much as possible. Thus, deciding how much money you want to save per month and checking how much you are obligated to spend makes the process easier. Some of the expenses are unavoidable, but others are not, for this reason it is necessary to establish priorities and understand whether or not it is possible to go out to dinner, to the cinema, or to watch a soccer match that month.

4. DIY: Do it yourself

This acronym has probably already appeared in some of our readers' searches, either on Facebook, discussion forums or Youtube. This movement, which translated means "do it yourself", has been gaining more and more strength and can be applied in areas as distinct as aesthetics, cooking or carpentry.

Although it is more comfortable to have other people do some tasks or services, if you choose to do things yourself you will be able to save a lot.

5. Compare prices

Another important trick to save money is to compare prices. It may be useful to review all the services you have contracted for, such as gas, electricity, Internet services and cell phone rates and compare these prices with those available in the market.

You should also not choose to shop at a more expensive supermarket, just because it is closer to home.

6. Plan ahead

In any savings plan, planning and organization are essential, since it will be much easier to save if you are aware of what you have to spend in the near future. For example, in case our readers have a wedding or need to change cars, it is essential to save during the previous months, so that when the time comes it will be easier to manage the expenses.
