Matosinhos String Quartet - Concert

The Matosinhos String Quartet will perform next Saturday, at 6:30 pm, at the Museu da memória de Matosinhos for a concert integrated in the Classical Music Season 2023.

"The snail and the importance of slowness" - Theater

To celebrate the World Theater Day, on March 26, 27, 28 and 29, the Teatro Municipal de Matosinhos Constantino Nery receives the children's play "The snail and the importance of slowness, with the text by Luís Sepúlveda, adapted and directed by João Luiz.

This is the story of a young snail who wanted to find out why they were such slow-walking animals and also, why he didn't have a name that distinguished him from the other snails.

Since the older snails in the community were not interested in his questions, he decided to set off on a journey in search of answers beyond the meadow where he had always lived.

EMOS - Concert

On March 24th, at 9:30pm, at Teatro Municipal de Matosinhos Constantino Nery, there will be a concert by teachers from Óscar da Silva Music School.

27th Edition of Termómetro Festival

Matosinhos will host, on March 24th, a stage of the 27th edition of the Termómetro Festival.

The session, scheduled for 9pm, in the cooperage room of the Casa da Arquitetura, will be presented by the broadcaster, presenter and founder of the festival Fernando Alvim.

There will be the performance of the duet "Bizzaro e Lombardi", young musicians from Matosinhos, winners of the 2022 edition of the "Caixa do Som" band contest, followed by the performances of Miguel Cordeiro, Mona Isinda, Triunfo dos Acéfalos and also the performance of the guest band The Twist Connection. Admission is free.

Throughout the various stages of the Termómetro Festival, the best ones will be selected to perform at the final event, scheduled for May 13, in Lisbon.

Orquestra de Famílias - Music

The Orchestra of Families will start a new project out of doors, in the Parish Union of São Mamede Infesta and Senhora da Hora, and is recruiting kids and adults willing to sing, play, build rhythm with their bodies, write lyrics and improvise.

In the Family Orchestra, the invitation is made to all those who feel music in their own way and want to share that happiness in artistic creation sessions, in a relaxed environment.

Starting on the 25th, the São Mamede Civic Center (Rua do Centro 2, 4465-166) will be the stage for these meetings. Access is free and families of all ages are expected to attend. Registration can be made through e-mail ofm@ojm.pt

The sessions at the São Mamede Civic Center will take place on March 25 and April 22, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.; May 14, from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.; and May 27 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Guided by Sara Vilar, Ana Conceição and Beatriz Rôla, the Family Orchestra is a project of the Orquestra Jazz de Matosinhos educational program, created in 2018, with the support of the Matosinhos City Hall.

Inclusive and multidisciplinary, it is an informal orchestra of parents and children, uncles and grandparents, which deepens family ties through the development of creative musical and arts skills, in groups and individually.

The Family Orchestra has already performed live at the Rivoli Theater, at the Matosinhos Municipal Market, and at the Real Vinícola.

The first group of the Orchestra of Families continues to meet at CARA every two weeks. On April 2nd, you are all invited to the concert "House of Departures", at the Orquestra Jazz de Matosinhos studio, in Real Vinícola, at 6pm. The entrance is free.

"The Tree and Music" - Concert

As part of the celebrations of World Tree Day, the Matosinhos City Hall will promote a free open-air show involving music and body expression, offering the public and families moments of joy, in which everyone will be invited to dance and celebrate Life for the Tree.

The show will take place on March 26, at 4 pm, at Carriçal Park (Senhora da Hora) and will feature the participation of "Novaterra" - Cultural Association Art and Environment. This association finds its inspiration in nature and education through art, building bridges between distant worlds which, once in contact, strengthen each other.

Dance World Cup - Competition

The Dance World Cup is an international amateur children's dance competition that each year holds a final in a different European country. Each country participating in the finals holds a qualifying round in their country for the children to compete for places. In total, 15,000 children compete in the finals worldwide.

Spring Regatta - Sailing Race

During March 25, in the marina and basin of Leixões, will take place the Sailing Regatta, open class and platu.

Matosinhos Surf School Cup - Surf Championship

Next March 25th is the date for the Matosinhos Inter-schools Surf Championship, which will take place at Agudela Beach.

The dates previously set may change due to adverse weather conditions, which may not allow the initiative to take place safely.

Space and Architecture - Drawing Course

For beginners, practitioners and lovers of drawing, this course approaches different themes. The course program intends to broaden the knowledge and techniques of drawing, as well as challenge different ways of observing.

The second module of the course will be dedicated to the drawing of space and architecture, and will be supervised by artist Clara Saracho and Professor Marta Cruz.

[From the Archive] Matosinhos Not Built - Exhibition

This is the first exhibition entirely produced by the Casa da Arquitectura and dedicated to the collections in the care of the Archive.

This exhibition has as its theme projects that were partially built, built and demolished or never built by names such as Eduardo Souto de Moura, Fernanda Seixas, Francisco Melo, Jorge Gigante, José Almeida, José Gigante, Manuel Correia Fernandes, Pedro Mendo, Pedro Ramalho, Teresa Fonseca.

Casa das Máquinas – Free guided tours

Visit the engine room of a municipal pool and find out what it looks and how it works. Learn how millions of liters of water are heated and treated daily, among other data and curiosities.

The first cycle of guided visits (lasting 45 min. approximately) will be at the municipal pool of Senhora da Hora, on March 4, 11, 18 and 25.

Registration is free, but mandatory. Limited availability.

Architecture for all - Free Guided Tours of the House of Architecture

The Casa da Arquitectura promotes, starting next Sunday, guided tours to the Casa da Arquitectura. The initiative is free and will take place every Sunday at 11am.

“Dias de Guerra” - Exhibition

February 24, 2023 marks one year since the beginning of the armed conflict between Ukraine and Russia. A barbarism that was hoped to be short-lived, but unfortunately persists, and in a context of escalation that does not glimpse a promising future.

Intending to give the look and the voice of all those who still fight emerging in the hope of a near future smoother, Matosinhos marks this day with the opening of the exhibition "The Days of War": a photographic record experienced in the first person by photojournalist Rui Caria, to whose images are added texts by Manuela Niza Ribeiro. A hard exhibition, of enormous realism and emotion, although with subtle nuances of hope and faith.

The opening of the exhibition will be attended by Rui Caria and Manuela Niza Ribeiro, as well as by the Ukrainian lyric singer Serhii Alkin - a refugee in Portugal, welcomed by Matosinhos, who will perform two themes of traditional Ukrainian music.

"Artefacto e Cultura/ Decifrar o invisível": Complementary program of the exhibition 'Sapatilhas. From the Estado Novo to the turn of the Millennium' - Conversation

In the context of the exhibition 'Sapatilhas. Do Estado Novo ao virar do Milénio' exhibition, the talk "Artefacto e Cultura/ Decifrar o invisível": Contributos para a História do Design Português, and the talk with ID+/ESAD-idea/IHC.UNL, moderated by Mafalda Moreira (Innovation School, Glasgow School of Art) will take place on March 25, at 15h00, at Casa do Design de Matosinhos.

The exhibition will be open until August 27, 2023, with complementary programming.

"Sapatilhas - Marcas Portuguesas do Estado Novo ao Virar do Milénio" - Exhibition

At a time when sneakers are gaining a global dimension as one of the icons of contemporary culture, Casa do Design inaugurates this exhibition curated by Pedro Carvalho de Almeida, to showcase a part of the legacy of the national sports footwear industry. Starting from a unique collection of over 500 models of sneakers representing a universe of 100 brands designed and manufactured in Portugal, this exhibition explores the cultural, social, political and economic significance that the brands represent. It proposes a brief historical contextualization, an in-depth reading of the Sanjo and Cortebel brands, but above all the revelation of a surprising collection of other brands characterized by small series, models for different sports practices and their packaging.

JOÃO CARLOS - Exhibition

The retrospective exhibition "João Carlos" was the last exhibition of 2022 to open at Casa do Design, in Matosinhos.

Dedicated to João Carlos Celestino Gomes, whose activity as an illustrator and designer developed from the twenties until his death in 1961, the exhibition is curated by the designer Jorge Silva and displays a total of 111 pieces that include prints on panels and shop windows, books, magazines and brochures.

“Matosinhos, Lugar e Memória" - Exhibition

The temporary exhibition of the Museum of Memory "Matosinhos Place and Memory" was inaugurated in August 2022, as part of the celebrations of the 1st anniversary of the Matosinhos Memory Museum.

Using a selection of photographs by Gabriele Basilico, belonging to the Municipality's collection, the exhibition contrasts these same records today: the urban and industrial landscapes captured by Basilico in the project "A City Like This" (1996), are now portrayed in the present time.

More than 25 years separate these photographic captures, and in this counterpoint it is possible to see and feel the city: its evolution, the response it has given to new civilizational challenges and the growing needs of its population.

“Linhas de Vento. Percursos Artísticos na Natureza” - Works from the Serralves Foundation Collection - Exhibition

The group exhibition is composed of a set of works by international artists associated with the land art or earthworks movement, such as Richard Long, Hamish Fulton and Ana Mendieta, who, from the late 1960s, took nature as a starting point for the creation of works conceived outside their studios. The show establishes a dialogue between the works of these artists with the works of some of the biggest names in Portuguese contemporary art, such as Alberto Carneiro, Fernando Lanhas, Lourdes Castro, and Luísa Cunha.

In "Lines of Wind. Percursos artísticos na natureza" a cross between painting and drawing, sculpture, photographic and audiovisual record of actions and performance in the natural environment, thus establishing their artistic works in close relationship with territory, anthropology, geology as well as ecology.

"António Carneiro. The poet with brushes" - Exhibition

In the year that celebrates the 150th anniversary of the birth of the artist António Carneiro (1872-1930), the Matosinhos City Hall remembers the painter widely represented in the municipal art collection with the inauguration of the retrospective exhibition "António Carneiro. The poet with brushes".

The show, the largest in the last 50 years of this poet and painter, takes place in Matosinhos, at Quinta de Santiago Museum, and will be open until February 26, 2023.

There are about 70 works, objects and documents, some of them unpublished or almost unknown, from the only Portuguese symbolist painter, which can be seen in this museum in Leça da Palmeira from Tuesday to Friday between 10am and 1pm and 3pm and 6pm, and on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays between 3pm and 6pm.

António Carneiro (1872-1930) was born in Amarante on September 16th, 1872. This year marks the 150th anniversary of the birth of this great painter, considered one of the greatest Portuguese painters of the late 19th century and early 20th century.

A singular artist, of a dreamy and melancholic nature, "a painter bigger than the country", besides being a landscape painter, he was also a portraitist, history painter, illustrator and poet.

Initially regarded as an antiques fair, the Dolphin Fair is now a must for collectors of all kinds of objects, both antique and modern. Books, vinyl records, toys, decoration, coins and stamps, crystals, embroidery, towels, watch and jewelry objects, are some of the items that can be found in this emblematic fair of our municipality, which is always held on the fourth Sunday of each month, from 10:00 to 18:00, in the Basílio Teles Garden
