21 projects in Matosinhos to combat poverty and exclusion in disadvantaged communities
5 of the first 50 projects approved by the Action Plan for Disadvantaged Communities of the Metropolitan Area of Porto (AMP) are from Matosinhos.
2.6 million euros from PRR- Recovery and Resilience Plan- will be invested in the projects: "+ Literacy" (training adults with low qualifications or no schooling, who are in a situation of socio-economic vulnerability, social isolation, unemployment or retirement), "Ativa'mente" (training and literacy of the population in the field of mental health as well as in reducing the stigma associated with mental illness), "Matosinhos Caring" (support for informal caregivers), "Mar de Todos" (promoting the inclusion of senior citizens and/or people with disabilities through sport and accessibility), and the Management, Monitoring and Evaluation of all the operations implemented in the scope of the Action Plan for Matosinhos' Disadvantaged Communities.
The approved projects of the 1st batch were presented today, in Porto, in a session attended by the Prime Minister, António Costa.
The Municipality of Matosinhos was represented by the President of the Executive, Luísa Salgueiro, and by the Vice President, Carlos Mouta.
Eduardo Vítor Rodrigues, president of AMP, explained that about 50% of the funding - 121.5 million euros, will be applied in immaterial projects in the areas of social inclusion, integration of disadvantaged communities, education, health, citizenship, environment, employment, among others.
The plan's implementation period ends on 31 December 2025.
According to the first secretary of AMP's Executive Commission, Ariana Pinho, 117 applications had been submitted by 31 October, amounting to more than 54 million euros. Of these, 50 were approved and have a funding of more than 21 million euros.
Until the end of this year, the Municipality of Matosinhos will submit 16 more applications. These are: Sport in the City; Family Support Service; Project SOMA - Oral Health in Matosinhos; Animating the City; IPAFASIA; Living More in the Community; Empowerment and Inclusion; Municipal Climate Charter; Sustainable and Circular Communities; Recircular Lab - Laboratory for the Prevention and Reuse of Waste; Inclusive Matosinhos;
Cidadão Jovem; Gestor/a de Entrada; Campanha IGUALIGUAL; Guia de Boas Práticas - Matosinhos; Academia de Capacitação.
The investment in the 16 projects of Matosinhos is 9.5 million euros.
The Prime Minister highlighted, regarding the RRP, the responsibility to "use every penny with all transparency, all responsibility and with the maximum efficiency that every penny applied is transformed into what are the fixed objectives, in this case, to overcome exclusion, to fight poverty and to have communities with greater social cohesion".
"This is a great challenge of society and it is a challenge for which no one will forgive us if we fail to meet," said António Costa.
