41st anniversary celebration includes Folklore Festival
The Sargaceiras and Marítimos de Angeiras Ranch was congratulated for the celebration of its 41st anniversary.
Last Saturday, 29 April, the Mayor of Matosinhos, Luísa Salgueiro, was present at the institution's anniversary party at its headquarters in Lavra.
The opening of the cake and a port of honour started the commemorations' programme, followed by a small Folklore Festival with the participation of the Sargaceiras and Marítimos de Angeiras Ranch and the Typical Ranch of S. Pedro do Avioso.
Yesterday, the programme of the celebrations continued with the celebration of a Eucharist in memory of the founders and members, in the speakers' room of the Social and Parish Centre Padre Ramos, in Lavra, and a barbecue at the ranch's headquarters.
It should be noted that the Angeiras Sargaceiras and Marítimos de Angeiras Ranch originated from the "Sargaceiras Group from the Matosinhos Fishermen's House - Angeiras Section", founded on 10 August 1932. In its genesis and identity, the maritime vocation is the appanage of a traditional fishing community, which lives and works in the small but traditionally large Praia de Angeiras. The group received its current name in 1982 by the hand of Maria Elvira Vasconcelos who distinguished herself by the defence of ethnographic values which, through Portuguese folklore, represent our origins. Each component, music, dance and ethnographic costume represents the uses and customs of a not so distant past. By participating in exchanges the group takes the name of its land and pride in its traditions to the national and international stages of folklore festivals. This group is also the founder and organizer of the Sardine Festival of Praia de Angeiras as well as of cultural activities that recreate our traditions such as the traditional "Desfolhada", the "Magusto de S. Martinho", the "Cantares ao Menino" and the "Janeiras", among others.
