With tickets about to sell out, TEDxPorto, considered one of the best TEDx events in the world, is back in the city of Porto on March 4th. Catarina Pestana, a specialist in communication and marketing, and Pedro Pacheco, professor of Bridges, the event's central theme, are the two new speakers now announced. They will take the stage at Alfândega do Porto next month, joining: Carolina Deslandes, Celmira Macedo, Almirante Henrique Gouveia e Melo, Benedita Sampaio Maia, Pedro Gaspar, Rosário Costa, Greg Gage, Piers Taylor, Mariana van Zeller and Henrique Cymerman.
Communication and marketing specialist and founder of the Bang Bang Agency, where she works with brands such as Vista Alegre, Bordallo Pinheiro and Control, Catarina Pestana has won over 80 awards in recent years: IF Design Awards, German Design Awards, Clube Criativos de Portugal, Meios e Publicidade, International Design Awards, among others. On TEDxPorto's stage, she will challenge us to think about how humor can be a link between people and brands and how it coexists with taboo or polemic themes such as politics, religion and sex.
Pedro Pacheco is a professor of Bridges at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP), and CEO of BERD, a company specialized in Bridge Engineering solutions, currently with projects in five continents and numerous national and international awards and distinctions. The professor and engineer reveals that "the life of a bridge engineer is marked by an enormous responsibility: there are bridges that change lives, bridges for traditions, bridges that marry nature, bridges that reveal cultural and religious trends, bridges that give names to cities and bridges whose image is the very identity of the place". In his talk he will talk about some innovative experiences that have changed the state of the art of Bridge Engineering worldwide, addressing the disruptive changes that are expected in the near future.
Remember that Bridges is the motto of the 12th edition of TEDxPorto, challenging participants to reflect on the importance of abandoning beliefs and values in order to accept the inevitable and rapid change to which we are subjected.
Catarina Pestana and Pedro Pacheco join the other speakers already announced for this edition of the event - Carolina Deslandes, singer and songwriter, Celmira Macedo, teacher and entrepreneur, Admiral Henrique Gouveia e Melo, Chief of Staff of the Navy, Benedita Sampaio Maia, microbiologist, teacher and researcher, Pedro Gaspar, specialist in climate technologies and director of Future Business Technology at CEiiA, Rosário Costa, global design director of LEGO DUPLO, Greg Gage, neuroscientist, co-founder and CEO of Backyard Brains, Piers Taylor, award-winning British architect and author of the Netflix documentary "The World's Most Extraordinary Homes", Mariana van Zeller, investigative journalist and host and producer of the series Trafficked With Mariana Van Zeller (National Geographic), and Henrique Cymerman, correspondent journalist for SIC, Expresso and other media in Spain and the Middle East.
Tickets are available and can be purchased through the TEDxPorto website, at 79€. In the last week before the event, tickets can still be purchased for 99€. Students under 23 years old have a 1/3 discount on the ticket price until one week before the event.
TEDxPorto happens since 2010, having already completed 11 editions, which brought together more than 12,000 participants and more than 200 speakers, such as Dirk Niepoort (the first producer of table Port wine), Zak Ebrahim (activist for peace, against violence and terrorism), Pedro Mourinho (in a talk live from Kiev on the war in Ukraine) and Pedro Abrunhosa (musician who spoke about silence).
As a non-profit event, the organization involves a team of more than 50 volunteers.
