In the first half of this year, the number already stands at 2175

The Matosinhos Municipal Consumer Information Center (CIAC) counted, in 2021, 4009 attendances. This year, in the first semester alone, 2175 calls were registered, an increase of 11.3% compared to the same period last year (1953).
From the beginning of this year until the end of June, 33 were complaints, 43 resulted in proceedings at the Arbitration Court and 76 proceeded to trial.
The Matosinhos CIAC has been in operation since 1989 and was the first of its kind in Portugal. It is a free consumer assistance and information service, with the objective of clarifying doubts and conflicts related to consumer rights/consumer issues.
It receives complaints, supports the consumer in resolving the conflict, refers cases to Arbitration Centers and ensures their follow-up.
The Matosinhos CIAC has also been providing, in collaboration with the Portuguese Association of Consumer Law (an entity which is part of the Support Network for Consumers in Debt), a support and counselling service for situations of over-indebtedness.
