Devotion to "Senhor de Matosinhos" in Brazil

Councilman Fernando Rocha was present at the "Jubilee" of the Lord of Matosinhos, one of the biggest pilgrimages in Brazil, which takes place in Congonhas do Campo

The entourage of the Municipality of Matosinhos, led by the Alderman of Culture, Fernando Rocha, who has been accompanying the II International Congress on Senhor de Matosinhos, taking place in the Brazilian city of Ouro Preto, visited the city of Congonhas, in Minas Gerais, to attend the 256th edition of the "Jubilee" (pilgrimage) of Senhor de Matosinhos that takes place there every year on this date - one of the largest and most traditional religious festivals in Brazil.

The temple dedicated to the Good Lord Jesus of Matosinhos is classified by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site and is famous for having one of the most remarkable sets of baroque sculpture in the world, by the famous sculptor "Aleijadinho".

Fernando Rocha attended the religious celebrations alongside the Mayor of Congonha and, at the end of the ceremony, met with the Metropolitan Archbishop of Mariana, Dom Airton José dos Santos, to whom he offered an exact and numbered replica, in a reduced scale, of the image of the Bom Jesus de Matosinhos.

The delegation from Matosinhos also had the opportunity to make a working visit to the Congonhas Museum.

The devotion to the Good Lord Jesus united Congonhas and Matosinhos in a twinning agreement signed in 1986.

The two cities have increasingly strengthened their relations by establishing bridges of faith, art, culture, gastronomy, economy and innovation.
