Drawing Contest gives new colours to the centenary Conserveira Pinhais

Contest 'O Sabor é o Nosso Norte' challenges about 100 students from Matosinhos to create an illustration for an exclusive edition of the renowned conserves



- The students, aged between 7 and 14, will also take part in visits to the

Conserveira and its Living Museum, recently created thanks to the joint effort of the North Region and the European Union.

- The winning illustration will be announced at a Commemorative Lunch for the local community at the Pinhais Conserveira on 3 December.


Between November 22 and 24, about 100 students from five schools in Matosinhos, aged between 7 and 14, will participate in the Drawing Contest 'O Sabor é o Nosso Norte' (Taste is our North), at Conserveira Pinhais. The students will

visit the factory and the new Living Museum and, based on this experience and other symbols that characterize the North, they will create a unique illustration for the limited edition of Pinhais' historical canned food.

This contest is one of the activities for the local community integrated in 'Europe in my region', a joint initiative of the Region and the European Commission, taking place in the North until 10 December. This activity counts with the participation of students from Estádio Do Mar Primary School, Maria Manuela de Sá Primary School, Godinho Primary School, Ermida Primary School and Amorosa Primary School, all in the municipality of Matosinhos.

The winning illustration will be decided by a jury composed by representatives of the Conserveira and the Region and will be announced during a Commemorative Lunch for local associations and organizations, to be held in Pinhais on December 3rd, where copies of this

limited edition of the canned food.

Under the slogan 'Taste is our North', 'Europe in my region' presents two emblematic places in the North Region: the Bolhão Market and the Pinhais Conserve, which have recently been transformed thanks to the support of the North Region and the European Union. The Market has undergone a total renovation and the Conserveira with a new Living Museum, integrated into its factory unit with the aim of combining the knowledge and memory of the canning industry in Matosinhos, and attracting visitors to experience first hand

the industrial heritage, in a place where the handcrafted production processes are maintained.

Besides the drawing contest and the commemorative lunch at Conserveira Pinhais, the workshops 'In the morning the day begins' will also be promoted at Mercado do Bolhão, on Tuesdays and Wednesdays - 22, 23, 29 and 30 November and 1 December -, aimed at young students. Through these workshops, students will have the opportunity to learn more about healthy eating and prepare a special breakfast with the

help from chefs in Bolhão's new kitchen.
