Electric car sales soar in Portugal and Musk wins

In the first two months of the year alone, electric car sales in Portugal rose almost 140% and the brand led by Elon Musk grew the most

Sales of electric cars continue to increase in Portugal. In the first two months of the year alone, they rose almost 140%.

In January and February, 4,850 electric cars left the dealerships, 2,823 more than in 2022. They have been the great bet of the Portuguese when it comes time to trade.

To SIC, Henrique Sanchéz, president of the Association of Users of Electric Vehicles, says that there was a great demand from 2020, which has been accentuated with the emergence of more brands and models.

"It has been accentuated because more brands have arrived, more models, with more autonomy and also with an increasingly lower price," he stresses.

He recognizes that electric cars are not yet at the level of equivalent combustion models, but that in terms of total cost of use "it is already very advantageous to buy electric vehicles.

Tesla, the brand led by Elon Musk, was the one that grew the most in Portugal. Sales soared 878% in January and February of this year.
