In the Municipal Library Gallery Florbela Espanca until 29 October
The exhibition "Nas margens do Leça" opened yesterday at the Florbela Espanca Municipal Library Gallery.
Composed by about 30 costumes belonging to the Typical Ranch of Amorosa, the exhibition presents work costumes, mainly linked to farming, Sunday and Pilgrimage costumes, luxury, bourgeois and English costumes, as well as a section dedicated to underwear of the time. Accessories such as parasols, hats and top hats, handkerchiefs, shoes and clogs may also be seen.
It should be noted that the types of clothing worn at the end of the 18th century did not vary much from region to region, since linen, wool, cotton and tow were worn from the north to the south of the country. However, factors such as climate, geographical region, local traditions and social status naturally influenced the way of dressing.
The opening of the fair included a live presentation of costumes by members of the Amorosa Typical Ranch.
The Amorosa typical dance group was founded in Amorosa, Leça da Palmeira, in 1935. It has always sought to safeguard the Immaterial Patrimony of Humanity, taking the name of Leça da Palmeira, together with its customs and traditions, to the four corners of the world, as attested by the numerous participations from the north to the south of the country, throughout Europe, Asia and Latin America.
Rancho Típico da Amorosa is the organiser of FESTARTE - International Festival of Arts and Popular Traditions of Matosinhos, a CIOFF festival (an NGO which has B status with UNESCO). He is also a founding member of the Portuguese Folklore Federation and has been distinguished over the years by various public and private bodies for his merit and service to Portuguese popular culture.
The exhibition "Nas margens do Leça" can be visited until next October 29th between 09h00 and 19h00 from Monday to Friday and on Saturdays between 09h00 and 12h30 and 13h30 and 17h30. It is closed on Sundays.
