39 young people from 21 Ibero-American countries visit CeiiA
2022 marks the 500th anniversary of the world's first circumnavigation voyage, led and initiated by the Portuguese Fernão de Magalhães and completed by the Spaniard Sebastián Elcano.
In honor of the navigators of 237 nationalities who participated in that expedition, the Project “Volta ao Mundo / Vuelta al Mundo” was created, an academic, cultural and adventure trip of an annual nature, focused on the main problems of today's society.
The first expedition of this project is the “Expedición Magallanes-Elcano 2022, La Primera Vuelta al Mundo” and is based on the University Cruise across the Mediterranean carried out in 1933 and with the participation of professors and students from Spanish universities.
For this expedition, 39 young people with limited economic resources were selected from 21 Ibero-American countries with the aim of deepening the ties of our common history.
From the 21st of July to the 12th of August, between Portugal and Spain, the participants are visiting the places of origin of the 18 survivors of the first circumnavigation voyage. In Spain, the tour includes visits to Getaria, Valladolid, Madrid, Sevilla, Sanlúcar de Barrameda, among others. In Portugal, through Lisbon, Porto, Miranda do Douro and Sabrosa, the birthplace of Fernando de Magalhães.

For 21 days, by bus, train, boat, bicycle or on foot, young people will have visits to natural parks, climb the mountains, hikes in nature, visit museums, cultural spaces and religious centers, participate in activities of a solidarity nature and inclusive, visits to sustainable energy production centers, including the CEiiA- Center for Engineering and Development, in Matosinhos.
