Festival Dias da Dança exceeds expectations

The 7th edition of Festival Dias da Dança exceeded expectations over the course of 13 days, with an occupancy rate of 85%. From April 18 to 30, 28 shows were presented between the cities of Porto, Gaia and Matosinhos, most of them national premieres

The organization has already advanced that the event returns in 2024, from April 23 to May 5.

Regarding this year's edition, Cristina Planas Leitão and Drew Klein, co-artistic directors of DDD and Teatro Municipal do Porto, quoted on the platform of the Porto chamber, say that the festival stood out “for the diversity and representativeness of artistic discourses”.

“The public found a renewed and consolidated festival, focused on the expanded experience of what contemporary dance is, in a relaxed environment that provided the meeting between artists and the public. It was possible to generate a sense of temporary community during the festival, through workshops, parties and shows. Accessibility continued to be a priority”, they underlined.

Cristina Planas Leitão and Drew Klein consider that DDD has entered, “definitely, in the international scene, with the presence of 33 programmers who traveled to Porto to meet Portuguese artists through the 3D program”.

“Overall, public participation was massive, with almost all shows sold out, as well as most of the workshops and activities”, they added.

It should be noted that at CAMPUS Paulo Cunha e Silva, the workshops and expanded practices had more than 300 participations.
