Florbela Espanca Library's anniversary

Children's storytelling session on the 18th anniversary


The 18th anniversary of the Municipal Library Florbela Espanca was marked today with a special edition of "LeVzinho na biblioteca".

Integrated in the program of the LeV- Literatura em Viagem festival, LeVzinho is a set of activities for the younger ones as a way to stimulate the contact with literature, at the Municipal Library.

This morning, the special guest was the storyteller and mentor of the project "Histórias de ler e contar" Carina Novo. Author of children's books, she presented her works "The girl who was afraid of dogs" and "Tales of Well-wishing".

Carina Novo was born in Paris in 1975, the daughter of emigrant parents. When she was two years old, she came to live in Portugal, more specifically in Viana do Castelo. At 18, she moved to Porto to study European Studies. She currently lives in Gondomar. Although she has always worked in the area of events and communication, she has dedicated herself to books and children's stories.

Present at the session were the Mayor of Matosinhos, Luísa Salgueiro, and the Councillor for Culture, Fernando Rocha. Designed by the architect Alcino Soutinho, the Florbela Espanca Municipal Library was inaugurated on 9th May 2005.

With about 18000 registered readers, the library currently has a collection of approximately 90000 documents available to the public. Works covering all areas of knowledge, from classic literature to the latest novelties, from science to works aimed at children.
