Cinema projects at primary and secondary schools in Matosinhos presented at the Municipal Theatre

The Teatro Municipal de Matosinhos Constantino Nery received on the 2nd and 3rd of November the Cinescolas Gala and the 7/1 Festival with the presentation of the works produced by the students of the schools involved.
Matosinhos has been investing for some time in cinema projects inserted in the various teaching levels of the schools of Matosinhos. In terms of cinematography, there are several projects implemented by the municipality, in the 2nd and 3rd cycles, the Cinescolas, and in the Secondary level, the 7/1 project. Both culminate in galas where the work done by the students during the school year is presented.
During the school year 2021/2022, and similarly to the last ten years of existence of Cinescolas, the project took place in nine school groupings of 2nd and 3rd Cycle in Matosinhos, involving more than 100 students.
The themes of the short films dealt with mental health, depression, anxiety, love, the digital life present in cyber-bullying and games, interpersonal relationships and relationships of friendship and inclusion, among others.
Regarding the 7/1 Festival, there were about 100 students who participated as creators of a short film from six secondary schools in Matosinhos.
Themes chosen by the students such as war/peace, mental health, inclusion, culture, gender equality and freedom, were the motto for the creation of a script and the respective short film. In this context, partnerships were developed with the Quinta de Santiago Museum and the S. Mamede Infesta Football Club, for example.
With more conventional or more experimental films, all the participants got involved to get their message across and create the seven short films of 7/1, which were presented this week at the Teatro Municipal de Matosinhos Constantino Nery.
The Councillor for Education of the Matosinhos City Hall, António Correia Pinto, was present at these film galas of the Matosinhos schools which, through art, allow the working of several useful skills both for academic careers and for the training of students.
