Golden Age Boccia Tournament

In the scope of the project "Safe Elderly", promoted by the Matosinhos Municipal Police, the first "Golden Age Boccia Tournament" took place today with the involvement of 55 elderly people from the Day Centres of the Guifões Social Development Association

The organization of the first "Golden Age Boccia Tournament" by the City Hall is a way to promote even more this socializing among the users, contributing to give them a greater sense of security resulting from the improvement of their mobility and cognitive condition.

In order to evaluate the motivation of the elderly for this action, an experimental game took place last week with good results. It was an experience that showed enthusiasm and commitment, as well as competitiveness, joy and compliance with all the rules of the game.

Boccia is a senior physical activity that aims to contribute to improving the quality of life, understood as the physical, social and emotional well-being of this specific population.

It is an activity suited and adapted to the physical condition of the elderly, being a stimulating strategy game, capable of promoting reasoning, concentration and memory, while developing the physical and motor dexterity of its practitioners, in addition to the physical and psychological gains. It also contributes to breaking routines and the isolation that is so common in these age groups.
