Healthy Neighborhoods Program

16 projects implemented in Matosinhos


8 thousand people from the Matosinhos community involved in the National Healthy Neighborhoods Program.

This is a program whose goal is to promote the improvement of health conditions, well-being and quality of life of the population, acting in the areas of health, social, economic, urban and environmental.

From Matosinhos, 30 applications were submitted, involving MatosinhosHabit, associations, groups, informal groups of residents, Matosinhos City Hall and the Local Health Unit of Matosinhos.

16 projects were approved, representing a total funding of 597,427€. They were: "Bairros sem Bullying" by Associação Plano i, "(Com)vida S. Gens História do meu Bairro" (My neighborhood's history) by Grupo Desportivo Recreativo e Cultural Alto de Avilhó, "Conservar Afetos Femininos" (Preserve Feminine Affections) by Associação Agir pelo Planeta, "Eu, tu e nós... We are Seixo" of the Association Atletas De Força De Portugal - O mais forte, "Encourage Sharing in the Cruz de Pau" of the Association Encourage Sharing, "Hands to the Opera" of the Cultural Association Aventuras do Costume, "Matosinhos around the table" of the Association for the Integrated Development of Matosinhos, "O Bairro está in(clusivo)" of the Association for the Promotion of Research in Design and Art - (esad-idea), "O2 Oportunidades para Tod@s" of the Association for the Education of Second Chance (AE20), "The Leixões of Memories" of the Association Adventure with Charisma, "Ribeiras + Inclusive" of the Association for the Development and Social Mobilization - DEMOS, "Safe - Health, Art, Training, Education" of the Association for the Family Planning, "Seashore Angeiras" of the Associação Mútua dos Armadores de Pesca de Angeiras, "Stayaway Cancro" of the Associação de Apoio a Pessoas com Cancro, "Viver com Diabetes" of the Associação Protetora dos Diabéticos Portugal, and "100Limites" of the Associação Humanitária de Bombeiros Voluntários de Leça do Balio.

The projects started in the last quarter of last year, with initiatives taking place until next October.

To date, about eight thousand people have participated in the projects and more than 80 partnerships have been established.

Of the 16 projects, three have already concluded their actions.

The project "(Com)vida S. Gens. Stories of my Neighborhood" culminated with the production of five short documentaries portraying the life stories of the inhabitants of the S. Gens housing development in all its phases. The documents are being shown in several festivals worldwide, and have received several distinctions, honorable mentions, and nominations in various categories.

The project "Mãos à Ópera" (Hands to the Opera), on the other hand, involved the community living in the Guarda I, II, and Antigo housing developments. After participating in several workshops, the population created a musical show that was publicly presented.

Finally, the "Bairro está in(clusivo)", which involved the Interior Design master's degree students from the School of Arts and Design, the residents of the Cruz de Pau area, and children and young people from the Matosinhos School Grouping.

They participated in photography workshops, production and graphic animation of surfboards, urban art, as well as in the construction of four leisure structures and mural painting.

The remaining 13 "Healthy Neighborhoods" projects are still under execution.
