From September 13 to 15, in Ouro Preto and Congonhas, Brazil
The councilman of Culture, Fernando Rocha, met yesterday in the Brazilian city of Ouro Preto, with the responsible for Culture, Heritage and Tourism of the City Hall of that city in the state of Minas Gerais, aiming to strengthen ties of cultural cooperation between the two municipalities.
Fernando Rocha, who heads the Matosinhos delegation at the 2nd International Congress on Senhor de Matosinhos, taking place in Ouro Preto and Congonhas between September 13 and 15, also had the opportunity to visit the temporary exhibition "Culto religioso à imagem do Bom Jesus de Matosinhos" on the devotion to Senhor de Matosinhos in Portugal and Brazil, held at Casa de Tomaz Gonzaga, where some of the cultural services of Ouro Preto City Hall are located.
It is recalled that the municipality co-organizes the II International Congress, in Ouro Preto and Congonhas. In 2019, Matosinhos hosted the first edition of the International Congress of the Lord of Matosinhos, an event that was attended by a delegation from Congonhas (State of Minas Gerais), a city twinned with Matosinhos and home to one of about 30 temples dedicated to the Lord of Matosinhos in Brazilian lands.
Postponed to 2022 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the II International Congress of Senhor de Matosinhos is organized by the City Hall of Ouro Preto, the City Hall of Matosinhos (Portugal), the City Hall of Congonhas and the Association of Historical Cities of Minas Gerais.
Lectures with national and international experts, guided tours and an exhibition are some of the activities of this edition, which will devote special attention to the relationship between Portugal and Brazil, based on the cult of the image of the Bom Jesus de Matosinhos.
Among the guest speakers, we highlight the participation of the councilman of Culture of the Matosinhos City Hall, Fernando Rocha, who will address the re-signification of the city of Matosinhos in the dimensions of Culture and Tourism, and the historian Joel Cleto who will speak about the History of Senhor de Matosinhos and its diffusion around the world.
The program of the II International Congress of Senhor de Matosinhos also extends to the city of Congonhas. Tomorrow, September 14th, day consecrated to Senhor de Matosinhos, there will be a special program of the event at the Sanctuary of Bom Jesus de Matosinhos, a Unesco World Heritage Site.
