Illustrations from "O Pedro gosta do Afonso" on display at the gallery
The auditorium of the Municipal Library Florbela Espanca was on Saturday, February 18, the stage for the presentation ceremony of the book "O Pedro gosta do Afonso", authored by Mariana Jones, and attended by the vice mayor, Carlos Mouta, and the councilman of Culture, Fernando Rocha.
This is her third children's book, after "Curls with Colors" and "Klara - the girl with sky eyes".
With a degree in Social Education, Mariana Jones considers this to be "a book for the family," adding that it is "a text about love, freedom, and individual identity. "Because we should all be able to be what we want to be, without prejudice, without guilt, without chains," she adds.
With a preface by Hugo Monteiro, researcher and professor at Escola Superior de Educação do Instituo Politécnico do Porto, the book includes illustrations by Luís Melo. A teacher and artist, he has exhibited regularly for almost three decades and has works in private and public collections. In 2001, Luís Melo received the Revelation Award at the Cerveira Biennial.
The book's illustrations will be on display at the Florbela Espanca Municipal Library Gallery until March 11, Monday through Friday, from 9am to 7pm, and Saturdays from 9:30am to 12:30pm and from 1:30pm to 5:30pm. Admission is free. On Sunday, the gallery is closed.
Besides Luís Melo's watercolors, the exhibition includes some of the works made by his students from the Lousada High School based on the text by Mariana Jones.
