Library promotes inclusive activities

"No sight and learning" and "Equal children, different stories" in the municipality's schools

The Biblioteca Municipal Florbela Espanca has been developing several activities to promote books and reading and to raise awareness of respect for "difference", contributing to the construction of an inclusive society among the educational community of the municipality of Matosinhos.

The workshop "Don't see and learn" and the project "Equal children, different stories", the latter in collaboration with Associação Plano I, are two examples of this.

In the first action, the reality of people with visual impairment is explored. With games and construction of sentences, the story of a blind boy who brought to the world another way of reading - Braille - is made known.

In the project "Equal children, different stories", different stories are told, showing that in our differences we are all equal.

All the activities promoted are free of charge, thus ensuring the democratic access to culture and leisure and are aimed at schools in the municipality of Matosinhos.

If you wish to take the workshop "Not seeing and learning" to a school in Matosinhos, please note that this activity is available, by appointment, from Tuesday to Friday, at 11am or 3pm.

The project "Equal children, different stories" takes place once a month at schools, at 11am, also by appointment with the Municipal Library services.

The next sessions will focus on different themes. In January, "prejudice" will be tackled, in February "gender identity", in March "human rights" and in April "family diversity".

The Library also promotes workshops during school breaks and celebrates commemorative days such as International Children's Book Day and World Book Day.
