The Monastery of Leça do Balio is the stage for the biggest cultural manifesto in Portugal, with a disruptive exhibition against disinformation.
The Livraria Lello Foundation inaugurated the 2024 programme at the Leça do Balio Monastery last Friday 21 June, dedicated to the theme of "Disinformation".
In order to illustrate the universal nature of the chosen theme, which is identified by the World Economic Forum as the main threat today, the Foundation presented the "Act The Thought" exhibition, an impressive display that represents a mosaic of more than a thousand large photographs.
This exhibition, which will be divided between the exterior and interior of the Monastery, was created in partnership with the Inside Out project, by French artist JR, and in co-curatorship with UNESCO's Alliance for Media and Information Literacy. The images displayed in the area surrounding the monastery are designed to disappear after a few days, using a biodegradable solution.
Rita Marques, president of the Foundation, said: "The aim is to show that disinformation transcends disciplinary boundaries, through curriculum development, joint research and the promotion of seminars and workshops."
The official ceremony included the signing of the Media and Information Literacy protocol between the Livraria Lello Foundation and dozens of higher education institutions in the north of the country such as Universidade Lusófona, ESAD, Universidade do Porto and IPP, with others expected to sign in the future, with the aim of evaluating the incorporation of AMI into academic programmes, holding events such as workshops and seminars and encouraging research projects between FLL and universities.
