MAR Shopping Matosinhos supports again the initiative "Surf For All", included in the poster of the 7th Edition of the Porto & Matosinhos Wave Series 2022.
The popular saying goes that the sun when it rises is for everyone. But in life, not everything is like that. Although increasingly practiced and accessible, surfing is still not possible for some children and young people who do not get support to practice it. It is with this in mind that the Porto & Matosinhos Wave Series has for some years now had the initiative "Surf for All". Sponsor of the event for three years, MAR Shopping Matosinhos has taken on this year the promotion of this social responsibility action and on September 28th will take 30 children and young people from local institutions ADEIMA - Associação para o Desenvolvimento Integrado de Matosinhos, Cruz Vermelha Portuguesa - Delegação de Matosinhos and Obra do Padre Grilo, plus 10 invited by the Matosinhos City Hall, to ride some waves. Together, they will make a tide full of energy.
This initiative involves children at risk, aged between seven and 12 years. The event will take place at Matosinhos beach, between 2:30 and 5:30 pm on September 28, and its goal is to promote the integration and emotional development of these children. Through the integrated model of therapy and sport, it is intended to increase the emotional competencies of the participants, contributing to the well-being of each one, in the present and in the future, to make this sport known and to awaken the interest for future experiences. The initiative includes a surfing experience and a brunch with time for socializing.
"This initiative is in line with our sustainability strategy, in which the values of inclusion and well-being of those around us are essential. We believe in the potential of sport for the social integration of vulnerable populations in our community and, besides stimulating this premise, the event also promotes the contact of these children and young people with nature, a catalyst for physical and emotional well-being, which is the most important thing," says Sandra Monteiro, General Manager of MAR Shopping Matosinhos.
The Porto & Matosinhos Wave Series is an initiative that takes place on the beaches of Porto and Matosinhos, which host a series of national competitions in various sports. Organized by Onda Pura Surf Center, with the collaboration of the City Councils of Porto and Matosinhos, it started on April 9.
In addition to "Surf for All", the Porto & Matosinhos Wave Series also has another social initiative, "Para Surfing", for young people with disabilities, which will take place on September 30.
