Municipality makes the territory known to visitors to Exponor
Exponor is ready for the 55th edition of the Vodafone Rally de Portugal, the fourth event on the World Rally calendar.
100 teams are taking part in the competition this year, a record number of entries, including three world champions - Sébastien Ogier, Sébastien Loeb and Ott Tanak - and the three candidate teams for the world title - Toyota Gazzo Racing WRT, Hyundai Shell Mobis WRT and M-Sport Ford WRT.
Between tomorrow and Sunday, 21 qualifying rounds will be held in the north and center of the country, in a total course of 1,535.35 km, 343.30 of which will be played against a clock.
As in previous years, Exponor is once again the operations center and assistance park for the participating teams. Fans will have the opportunity to see the drivers, teams and cars up close at the following times: Thursday, between 10:00 and 21:00, Friday and Saturday, from 10:00 to 24:00, and on Sunday, between 09:00 and 14:00 Entrance is free.
The Mayor of Matosinhos visited the venue. Luísa Salgueiro was accompanied by the president of the ACP- Automóvel Clube de Portugal, Carlos Barbosa, by the Vice-President of the municipality, Carlos Mouta, by the Councilor for Tourism, Marta Pontes, by the Councilor for Sports, Vasco Pinho, in addition to other mayors or representatives of the other municipalities where the competition takes place.
The municipality of Matosinhos is once again present at the event, making our territory known through a stand, focusing on the reinforcement and consolidation of the “Matosinhos World’s Best Fish” brand. In addition to gastronomy, the Matosinhos stand showcases the heritage, the works of the architects Álvaro Siza Vieira and Eduardo Souto Moura, the coastline and the gliding sports.
The delegation also visited the exhibition of classic cars that represent the history of the World Rally Championship, such as the Alpine-Renault A110 (the model that won the first WRC rally in Monte-Carlo), the Audi Quattro S1, A1 and A2 , the Lancia Delta S4, the Peugeot 205T16, the Lancia Stratos, the Ford Escort RS1800, the Opel Ascona 400, the Toyota Corolla and the Hyundai i20.
The free-access exhibition is part of the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of the WRC (World Rally Championship) and will feature the presence of the legends who drove many of these models such as Markku Alen, Marcus Grönholm, Carlos Sainz, Miki Biasion, Walter Röhrl, Ari Vatanen, among others.
Still in Matosinhos, but on the waterfront, there will be the podium for the consecration of the competition's winners, in a ceremony that will take place on Sunday, at 15:00.
