In August this year, Galp carried out a "pre-assessment" as to the level of contamination of Petrogal's plot. According to Jornal de Notícia, the Mayor of Matosinhos, Luísa Salgueiro, said that everything points to the 17 hectares ceded are not contaminated, however warned that so far the result of the diagnosis "is a prediction and not a confirmation".
The Portuguese Environment Agency (APA) is currently evaluating the assessment presented by Galp. According to the source, Luísa Salgueiro added that the municipality is waiting "for the APA's final report to have the definitive validation of the contamination status of this area.
