The municipality of Matosinhos registered, in 2021, 436 road accidents, 50 more than those that occurred in 2020, representing an increase of 13%, said the City Hall on its official website
These accidents resulted in five deaths (one more than in 2020), 10 serious injuries (two more than in 2020) and 498 minor injuries (22 more than in 2020), he said.
In the information provided, the municipality, led by socialist Luísa Salgueiro, specified that 55% of accidents resulted from collisions, 20% from accidents with pedestrians, and 25% from crashes.
The roads where the highest number of accidents happened were in Veloso Salgado Street (Leça da Palmeira), Avenida Calouste Gulbenkian (Senhora da Hora) and Avenida D. Afonso Henriques (Matosinhos), he stressed.
Most of these accidents occurred during the day, with good weather and with dry and clean floor.
The Matosinhos City Hall intends to reduce the number of deaths and serious injuries by 50% by 2030, through safe infrastructure and vehicles, safe use of roads and a plan adapted to the future, he stressed.
