Performances with the National Ballet Company, with the intention of creating a dynamic project that unites dance and music
The National Ballet Company and the Matosinhos String Quartet have joined forces for a dynamic project that brings dance and music together.
As part of this partnership, the Camões Theater in Lisbon presents a show with live music performed by the Matosinhos String Quartet. In this new program, the National Ballet Company brings together three choreographers, Anne Teresa de Keersmaeker, Fábio Lopez and Alexander Ekman, with distinct backgrounds, languages and aesthetics, but who are connected through the scores of their works - different composers for string quartet. The music written for string quartet is, in this performance, the link between the three choreographers who give life to the movements of the dancers on stage.
The Matosinhos String Quartet, present on stage, is in charge of the musical interpretation. Works by Ludwig van Beethoven can be heard in Grosse Fuge (Keersmaeker), homonymous to the musical piece by this composer (op. 133, in Bb Major); by Gavin Bryars in Avant Qu'il N'y Ait Le Silence (Lopez); and in Cacti (Ekman) from improvisations and fragments of some works by L.v. Beethoven, Franz Schubert, and Joseph Haydn.
The sessions started on March 3rd and will last until next Sunday, March 19th. The Minister of Culture, Pedro Adão e Silva, was present at the event.
Tickets for the next sessions can be purchased on site, at bol.pt, or at the usual ticket agents. More information at https://www.cnb.pt/eventos/keersmaeker-lopez-ekman/
