Classical Music Concert at Matosinhos Memory Museum

The Municipality of Matosinhos will once again offer, in 2023, an extensive program dedicated to the dissemination of classical music, in alternative spaces, such as MuMMa - Museu da Memória de Matosinhos, the Gardens of the Quinta de Santiago Museum, or the Studio of the Matosinhos Jazz Orchestra.

The program kicked off on Saturday, March 25th, at MuMMa - Museu da Memória de Matosinhos with a concert by the Matosinhos String Quartet.

Inserted in the classical music season of the Matosinhos City Hall for 2023, the recital included works by Eurico Carrapatoso (1962) - Llaços, contradanças e descantes (2016), Sérgio Azevedo (1968) - Popularuskia - three pieces for string quartet (2017), Telmo Marques (1963) - Ilhas Afortunadas (2016), and by Fernando Lapa (1950) - Suite Mirandesa, (2017), in versions for string quartet.

The moment was also marked by the launch of the CD RAÍZES, with Portuguese chamber music, by the Matosinhos String Quartet.

During this year some of the most relevant names of the national and international panorama will be summoned, presenting a cycle of music for piano and string quartet under the name of Quintets for Piano.

The Matosinhos String Quartet was created in 2007 by initiative of the Matosinhos City Hall. It develops an important preservation work of the Portuguese and European musical heritage, also performing, in recent years, regular concerts in churches and chapels of the municipality, assuming itself as a fundamental instrument of the goal of democratizing the cultural enjoyment in Matosinhos. It has performed on the main national and European stages, having won, in 2014, the Rising Stars award of the European Concert Hall Organization.
