Metrobus, the hydrogen-powered vehicle that will make the connection between Rotunda da Boavista and Praça do Império, in Foz, expects 5 million passengers during one year, according to demand studies carried out
The trip will have an expected duration of 12 minutes, and will take place in a dedicated lane.
This is "a new form of road transport that, like Metro do Porto, will bring efficiency, frequency and modernity," says Joana Barros, one of those responsible for this project, according to the news advanced by CNN Portugal. "It will have automatic signaling, be self-managed and live peacefully with road traffic," she adds.
The completion of the work is scheduled for the first half of 2024. Until then, and in order to facilitate traffic, four lanes will remain available, two in each direction, on Avenida da Boavista.
The interventions result from an investment of 66 million euros, from the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR), a program that aims to "implement a set of reforms and investments aimed at restoring sustained economic growth," as indicated on the Recuperar Portugal website. The measures are intended to promote "the goal of convergence with Europe," in various factors such as social and territorial cohesion, green transition and digital transformation, over the next decade.
