Moods Festival is coming

From 12 to 14 May, in the Basílio Teles Garden. Activities, music, shows and fairs dedicated to the theme of Environment and Sustainability

Matosinhos receives, already next week, the MOODS Festival. From 12 to 14 May, in Jardim Basílio Teles, right in front of the Town Hall, there will be several activities focused on environment and sustainability issues for all age groups.

Spreading an "environmental message in artistic and cultural form" is one of the goals of this festival, an event organized by the Global Media Group, in partnership with the Matosinhos City Hall, Galp, Caixa Geral de Depósitos, INATEL Foundation and BEL Group. Over three days, there will be plenty of activities, shows, music and two fairs to visit.

At the festival, visitors will be challenged to discover, through a microscope, the diversity of microorganisms existing in a drop of water from the Leça River. There will be a quiz to raise awareness on the conscious use of water and a "Natural Printing" workshop, whose activity consists in printing a small piece of fabric with botanical elements, while creating a coloured background with natural dyes.

The Matosinhos City Hall will also organise workshops on urban gardens and on "conscious cooking", in which some techniques and utensils that allow reducing food waste will be presented.

The party will have several "stages" spread throughout Jardim de Basílio Teles, where several activities will take place.

On the Palco Aprendiz (Learning Stage), dedicated to the youngest, there will be board games. Children and youngsters will be able to come into contact with traditional Portuguese instruments - such as the ukulele, the bass drum, bagpipes or flute - and learn how to build simple instruments with rubbish.

On the Equilibrium Stage, children and adults can watch a show that aims to alert to concerns about the planet. One of the objectives is to show that the permanent search for balance between nature, the planet, its resources and human life is our greatest goal.

On the Housing Stage, the theme of housing is highlighted through a "show between four walls and on three wheels". It focuses on the story of a circus artist who loses all his work after a pandemic shakes the world. It is a reflection on the right to housing, nomadism and the importance of seeing the planet as a home for all its inhabitants. The Earth Stage, meanwhile, will be a venue dedicated to music. The aim is to promote a peaceful and inclusive society through artists such as Leonard Cohen, Bob Dylan, Jobim, Patti Smith and Nina Simone.

The Coreto will be the meeting point, before sunset, for the final concert on each day of the festival. On 12 May, the bandstand will be occupied by Retimbrar. On the following day, Kumpania Algazarra will perform and on 14 May, Be-Dom will close the festival.

The MOODS Festival will also feature two fairs. The Urban Market, which will sell seasonal fruit and vegetables produced on the basis of sustainable agriculture. And the Flea Market, with the sale of second-hand items. The aim is to promote the circular economy.
