Mythical Famel returns electric and will cost about 5 thousand euros

The new Famel E-XF hits the market in 2023, breathing new life into a mythical brand. Learn more about the Portuguese electric bike

The wait is over. The Famel is back and through the big door. It was presented last May at Expomoto, at Exponor, in Matosinhos, and it was an opportunity for fans of the mythical XF-17 to see for themselves the modern electric version of that iconic motorcycle: the E-XF.

In 2021 it was announced the intention of the Mourisca do Vouga company, when re-launching itself in the market, to present an innovative product that would pay homage to the classic Famel XF-17.

The process, however, had started some time earlier. In 2017, Famel embraced the idea of developing a new electric motorcycle, responding to market demands and environmental sustainability. It lacked the metallic sound so characteristic of the XF-17, but the new electric technology requires it.

"It was a long process, because we wanted to guarantee not only the quality of the final product, but also the fidelity to the model that enchanted the brand's fans for decades. We are very pleased with the result," reveals Joel Sousa, (re)founder of Famel.

Two models for different customers

The new E-XF is available in two different models: the Café Racer (for one occupant only) and the Classic (for two occupants). Both models can be configured in two versions, with cylinder capacities equivalent to 50 and 125 cubic centimeters, with selling prices estimated between 4,499.00 euros and 5,899.00 euros.

Autonomies between 70 and 120 km

Famel proposes the 50cc model with an autonomy of 70 km that can be expanded up to 120 km with the installation of a second battery. The 125cc model, on the other hand, with two batteries will have an estimated autonomy of 120 km. Enough capacity to cover the commuting trips work/home/work without major problems.

Both models, in the 125 version, are also available in an exclusive and limited series called Ambassador. This will be numbered from 1 to 300 and will receive unique design details and estimated delivery during the first quarter of 2023. Delivery of the remaining models is scheduled for the second quarter of the year.
