At stake is the Caminho da Arte project, promoted by Lionesa - Association of Art, Culture and Tourism, with the support of the Portuguese municipalities that the Ways of St. James run, the Regional Directorate of Culture of the North (DRCN) and Turismo Porto e Norte de Portugal (TPNP).

The project aims to connect the city of Porto and the capital of Galicia, Santiago de Compostela, through contemporary art, and thus create the longest and most visited art stage in the world, with more than 260 kilometers.

The Caminos de Santiago is an ancient route followed by millions of pilgrims since the beginning of the 9th century, when the tomb of the apostle Santiago was discovered.

The Portuguese Way of the Coast crosses the municipalities of Porto, Matosinhos, Maia, Vila do Conde, Póvoa de Varzim, Esposende, Viana do Castelo, Caminha, Vila Nova de Cerveira and Valença.

The project was formalized this morning by signing a protocol at the headquarters of Turismo do Porto e Norte, in the Castelo de Santiago da Barra, in Viana do Castelo.
