The intermunicipal phase took place on Wednesday 26 April in Matosinhos

On 26 April, the Noble Hall of Matosinhos Town Hall hosted the inter-municipal phase of the 16th edition of the National Reading Contest (CNL), organised by the Florbela Espanca Municipal Library.

After the written test of the inter-municipal phase of the CNL, 20 children and young people from schools of the AMP (Metropolitan Area of Porto) from the 1st, 2nd and 3rd cycles and secondary education were selected for the oral test. Three of these attend schools in Matosinhos, namely, EB Viscondessa, Escola Eng. Fernando Pinto de Oliveira and Escola Básica e Secundária do Padrão da Légua.

In the online written test, which took place on April 19, 186 students from the various levels of education at schools in the following municipalities participated: Arouca, Espinho, Gondomar, Maia, Oliveira de Azeméis, Paredes, Porto, Póvoa de Varzim, Santa Maria da Feira, Santo Tirso, São João da Madeira, Trofa, Valongo, Vila do Conde.

In yesterday's session, eight students from schools in Vila do Conde, Maia, Valongo, Paredes, Porto, Santo Tirso and S. João da Madeira went on to the next stage, and will now compete in the grand final at national level to be held on 3 June.

Fernando Rocha, councillor for Culture of the Matosinhos City Hall, associated himself to the initiative, congratulating all the participants, especially those who were selected for the next phase of the competition. The winners were awarded with an Ereader of the brand KOBO.

The councillor addressed a few words to those present, namely parents and teachers, on the importance of the stimulus, incentive and support for these children and youngsters to take an interest in reading, writing and initiatives that may contribute to their development.

It should be remembered that the main objective of the CNL is to stimulate reading habits and to test the written and oral expression skills of the various levels of education.
