The Matosinhos City Hall intends to expand, during this year, the number of users of the Seniors in Network project, through which it combats the isolation of elderly people in the municipality.
Currently, there are 40 people covered by this program. The seniors are provided with tablets and respective software, internet service (for those who do not have one) and technical support. The goal is to "combat social isolation, promoting interpersonal relationships (using video calls, video messages, photo sharing), digital inclusion and cognitive stimulation (with access to movies, music, and various games).
"With the collaboration of the local partnership, 40 people were selected and trained to be part of the project. Through the follow-up and monitoring of reference technicians, the people participating in the project will reduce social isolation and increase digital skills, thus promoting their integration and participation not only in their support networks but also in society itself," explains the Municipality.
"This project follows the municipality's intervention in the context of the Isolation Helpline, activated in 2020, right at the beginning of the pandemic, verifying that many people faced drastic changes in their routines, namely in communication with family members and other reference people," it adds.
The preferred applications are memory games, puzzles, music, movies, and phone calls.
