4th and final concert of the 3rd edition of the concert series “Jazz na Real Vinícola”
The last concert of the 3rd edition of the series of concerts “Jazz na Real Vinícola” took place on Saturday, the 25th, taking place once again in the square of Real Vinícola, in Matosinhos, and brought the voice of Manuela Azevedo on a trip for Portuguese music.
It was July 1, 2014 when Orquestra Jazz de Matosinhos (OJM) and Manuela Azevedo shared the stage for the first time. On the way to a decade with more than two hands full of concerts, the relationship between the big band and the national pop singer has been getting deeper and deeper. One theme is taken away, another is tried out, new arrangements are created and the thirst to discover remains as it was on the first day. With arrangements by Pedro Guedes and José Pedro Coelho, the reunion at Real Vinícola proposed a journey through the national songbook, passing through the music of Clã, Samuel Úria or Sérgio Godinho, and also brought a theme from across the Atlantic, “She is a Dancer ” by Chico Buarque.
The open-air concert cycle began on the first Saturday of June with an almost mystical dive into Rui Reininho's latest album, 20 000 Éguas Submarinas, followed by the music of Ornette Coleman, one of the great masters of jazz. , in the company of two saxophonists from different generations as soloists: Perico Sambeat and Ricardo Toscano. The last concert was marked by the reunion of OJM with Telmo Marques, this time invited to direct a program entirely filled with his own transcripts for “A Journey Through the Times of Jazz”.
