Portugal Fashion kicked off on Tuesday 11 October and for five days will feature 40 fashion shows in various locations in Porto, such as the Bolhão Market, Soares dos Reis Museum and Palácio da Bolsa
"This will be a different edition, since we started an organizational strategy to spread Portugal Fashion through Oporto (...). With this new model, Portugal Fashion aims to highlight all the creative and business potential of Portuguese fashion, connecting it with a city of creativity, innovation, business and entrepreneurship, with a strong industrial and commercial background. Around 40 shows, among which more than ten are international, positioning Porto more and more as a fashion capital of global expression," said to Lusa, the director of Portugal Fashion (PF), Mónica Neto.
The responsible explains that there are ten different spaces for the parades, in order to "fragment the calendar", taking the "professionalization of the event to involve actions from morning to night", providing "more impact" in the city, and "democratizing the event".
The shows will only begin on 12th October, at the Natural History and Science Museum of Porto University, at 11am, with the creations of designer Carolina Sobral, followed by Meiling Inc Limites, at 12.30pm.
Also on the first day, the parades will take place at the São Bento da Vitória Monastery and Clérigos Promenade.
The second day of the event is dedicated to the footwear sector and will parade, from 21h, at the Alfândega do Porto, several Portuguese brands including Fly London, Ambitious, Felmini, Nobrand and Rufel.
On the 14th, the shows take place at the Palácio da Bolsa, next to the Porto riverside, and at the Silo Auto park in Baixa, with some of the highlights going to the Decenio X Gonçalo Peixoto and Luís Onofre shows.
The Oficina do Ferro (a former car factory on Rua do Heroísmo), Mercado do Bolhão and the Soares dos Reis National Museum are the three venues chosen to host the spring-summer 2023 collections on the last day of this edition of Portugal Fashion.
Most of the presentations follow the professional calendar of anticipating the spring-summer 2023 collections. However, there are different commercial strategies and there will be names like Maria Gambina presenting in a "see now, buy now" format, that is, showing the collection for this autumn/winter.
Of the 40 shows in this edition, which includes "66 designers and brands, 17 shows are international, all of them connected to business dynamics with Portugal, in terms of design, production and marketing," concludes Mónica Neto.
A study by the Catholic University of Porto indicates that this event, over the last five years, has generated "an impact of 45.4 million euros in Portuguese Gross Value Added, and has sustained between 170 and 449 jobs annually".
Refer that Portugal Fashion, an initiative to promote Portuguese fashion may not happen in 2023 due to lack of funding.
