Portugal has only 20% of its red seabream quota left and fishing may be closed

Portugal has used 80 percent of the red seabream fishing quota, and this catch could be closed, the Directorate General of Natural Resources, Security and Maritime Services (DGRM) warned on Wednesday, November 9

"For all due purposes it is reported that, considering the catch data of red seabream ('Pagellus bogaraveo') made by the Portuguese route in Union and international waters in subarea nine, the quota use reached 80%," the DGRM said in a statement.

Given this scenario, the DGRM warned, it may be necessary to close the red seabream fishery.

The DGRM is a central service of direct state administration, with administrative autonomy, which aims to develop safety and maritime services, implement fisheries policies and preserve resources.
